Sport

Sports

At Rockingham Junior and Infant School, we want every child to enjoy being active.

Sport and physical activity are an important part of school life. They help children to stay healthy, build confidence, develop friendships and support their wellbeing.

What sport means at Rockingham

Sport is about more than winning. Through PE lessons, playtimes, clubs and competitions, children learn to:

  • work as part of a team
  • show respect and fair play
  • build resilience
  • celebrate effort and achievement
  • develop confidence in their own abilities
  • understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle

Opportunities for every child

We aim to make sport inclusive, enjoyable and accessible for all pupils.

Children take part in a wide range of activities, including football, cricket, basketball, rounders, dance, gymnastics and athletics. They also have opportunities to join clubs, take part in sports days, attend festivals and represent the school in competitions.

Active every day

We encourage children to be active throughout the school day, not just during PE lessons.

Initiatives such as The Daily Mile, active playtimes and lunchtime activities help pupils to move more, improve their fitness and feel ready to learn.

Leadership and teamwork

Our Sports Leaders programme gives pupils the chance to take on responsibility and support others. Children develop leadership skills, commitment and confidence while helping to promote sport across school.

Healthy bodies, healthy minds

We know that being active supports both physical and mental health. At Rockingham, sport helps children to feel positive, try new things and be the best that they can be.
